This project will provide drainage infrastructure to connect the airport drainage ditch that runs along the north boundary of the Sioux Gateway Airport from the east side of I-29 to the east side of S. Lewis Boulevard. Most of the properties on the east side of South Lewis Blvd. from the south side of Green Valley Golf Course to approximately south of South Ridge Road including the Sioux City Brick and Tile properties and west of Old Lakeport Road will benefit from this new drainage infrastructure. The drainage area consists of approximately 310- acres within the Sioux City corporate boundary, 114-acres within the Sergeant Bluff corporate boundary and 16-acres within Woodbury County limits. The area is currently mostly undeveloped with limited commercial/industrial sites and rural acreages. The project will install three 48-inch drainpipes from the east side of South Lewis Boulevard to the west side of the Union Pacific railroad line. There will be several utility lines that will have to be relocated such as a 16-inch water line and a large MidAmerican underground power line that is located within the UP right of way. The preliminary report for this project shows that the properties within the City of Sioux City will contribute approximately 51% of the total storm flows and properties within Sergeant Bluff/Woodbury County boundaries will contribute 49% of the storm flows. This project will provide drainage for the City of Sioux City's former Zoo property. As of June 14, 2025, this project is included in the City's 2025-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
