The Virginia Department of Transportation (herein referred to as "VDOT") is soliciting bids from qualified firms to provide a steel structure (71-686-6097) in accordance with the attached steel beam drawings. DESCRIPTION: Steel structure - Complete in accordance with attached Steel Beam drawings. Structure Data: Roadway width: 23'-4" (face to face of rails) Skew: 45 degrees (Left Hand Back) W-Shape: W24x103 Number of spans: 1 Beam length: 58'-0" Number of Beams: 14 Type anchorage: MX at both Abutments Approximate weight: 93,200 (lbs.) Route 686 (Markham Road) over Georges Creek Pittsylvania County Structure Number: 6097 Capacity: HL-93 Loading. Designed using AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, 7th Edition, 2014; and VDOT Modifications All materials shall conform to the requirements of the 2020 Virginia Department of Transportation Road and Bridge Specifications. Structural steel shall be ASTM A709, Grade 50. Rolled beams may be supplied in accordance with ASTM A992 with supplemental test S5 for Charpy V-Notch Impact testing. Test values shall meet the requirements given in ASTM A709 for Zone 2. All structural steel, including bearings, shall be hot dipped galvanized in accordance with Section 233 of the Specifications. Shop drawings shall be submitted to VDOT within 30 days of award of contract. Beam ends at abutments shall be clipped to match skew.
