The ASUCM Student Union (SU) building is anticipated to be approximately 46,500 gross square feet and is anticipated to be delivered through a formal Design-Build awarding process. The facility will serve as a key welcoming space for students to gather, connect, and engage. Located at the south edge of campus adjacent to the Bellevue parking lot, the building will establish a highly visible and easy-to-find presence upon arrival, reinforcing a student centric campus identity. Designed to attract and support student life, the facility will serve as an active hub of activity and engagement.. Universal Design principles will be integrated throughout the building, extending minimum code requirements to ensure thoughtful, accessible, inclusive spaces. Features such as multi-stall all gender restrooms and quiet rooms will provide supportive environments that respect a range of needs and lived experiences. The Student Union project will be all electric and be LEED(TM) Gold while striving to earn LEED(TM) Platinum certification. The design team will lead the development of the Detailed Project Program (DPP), utilizing workshops to define the programmatic needs in development of the DPP. The DPP will include but is not limited to room data sheets, adjacency diagrams, and project specific requirements. The University reserves the right to seek full-design services from this pre-design team should the delivery method change and/or should the university seek to retain this firm as the Campus Master Architect. The University is seeking an architectural and engineering team that will form a creative partnership with the campus to produce a Detailed Project Program (DPP) for use in a forthcoming Design/Build selection responsive to the University's needs while meeting stringent budget, schedule, and sustainability goals. Relevant qualifications shall include proven experience in programming and/or designing student union building projects for public higher education institutions. Firms must demonstrate their history in meeting project budgets and schedules, and their ability to provide effective and experienced support. Experience of the qualified programming team shall have appropriate sustainability experience as well. Firms will be required to have an active State of California's architect's license for a minimum of five years. The key attributes that the University is seeking are firms with experience on public college campuses who can respond in a timely manner and assign staff with technical expertise along with excellent communication and organizational skills.
