Project Description: The Colorado School of Mines (Mines) requests submittals for prequalification of Mechanical Contractors with experience bidding as a Prime Contractor for our Engineering Hall Air Handling Unit Replacement Project. This is Step 1 of a two-step solicitation process where qualification packages will be reviewed, evaluated, and scored for each submitting firm. The highest-ranking firms will be included as prequalified, short-listed Mechanical Contractors to bid this project. Step 2 will be an invitation to the short-listed Mechanical Contractors to bid this project. Scope of Services: Engineering Hall is Mines oldest building, and the home of Mines Economics and Business program. The building was constructed in 1894, though, it is not on the official Historic Building Registry. Near the heart of Mines campus, Engineering Hall is a frequently visited building appreciated for its age and aesthetic. Throughout the years, Engineering Hall has undergone multiple renovations and additions, including Phase I of this project which included the replacement of the steam and condensate branch lines coming from the main utility tunnels and serving the building, including a new heat exchanger, heating water pumps, and other miscellaneous components. This forthcoming Phase II of the project will include replacement of the building's primary air handling unit (AHU), as it is beyond its useful life expectancy. Replacement of the AHU shall include reconnection to existing building systems such as heating water, electrical, building automation controls, and others. The work to replace the AHU is outlined in forthcoming Construction Documents that will be shared with shortlisted contractors as outlined above.
