Benicia's Fire Department seeks vegetation management services in 27 open space areas within the city, focusing on reducing fire risk near residential areas by using livestock grazing, preferably goats, due to their ability to navigate steep terrain. The contractor must use herds to graze and abate fire fuels within 0-50 feet of private property lines, contain livestock with portable fencing to prevent trespassing, and reduce and maintain weed growth at four inches or less in height by June 30, 2026. The contractor must revisit areas if regrowth occurs and, if livestock cannot be used in certain areas, employ other methods such as mowing, disking, or handwork to manage vegetation.
