The general nature of the work for which bids are requested includes: 85 cubic yards of offsite topsoil, 110 square yards of 3-inch dark river rock, 640 square yards of 3-inch shredded hardwood mulch, 3,289 plants (various types) by count, 27 black gum trees by count, and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances according to the contract documents. Bids must be submitted on the Proposal Form furnished by the City, in a sealed and plainly marked envelope. Any alteration of the proposal form may be cause for rejection. Each bidder must include bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8, placed in a separate envelope attached to the bid. Bidders must also provide a signed statement regarding resident status as designated by the Iowa Labor Commissioner. Failure to provide this statement may result in the bid being deemed nonresponsive. Each bidder must complete and sign the Equal Employment Opportunity / Non-Discrimination Policy Statement and submit it with the proposal. A corporate surety bond equal to 100% of the contract price is required from each successful bidder. The City reserves the right to defer acceptance of any bid for up to thirty days after receipt and to reject any or all bids or waive informalities as it deems in its best interest. The City of Marion assures full compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and related statutes, ensuring no person will be excluded from participation, denied benefits, or subjected to discrimination based on race, color, national origin, gender, age, or disability.
