Site work for a playground / park / athletic field in Hancock, Maryland. Completed plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field.
The work consists of the replacement of steps connecting Joseph Hancock, Jr. Park and the Western Maryland Rail Trail (WMRT). Bidders are strongly encouraged to visit the project sites at Widmeyer Park, Joseph Hancock, Jr. Park, and the WMRT connector to fully understand existing conditions. Contractor shall construct a staircase accommodating hikers and bicyclists walking bicycles. The structure must be durable, stable, and suitable for outdoor recreational use. Riser Height: 4"-7.75"; Tread Depth: consistent with existing stairs; Width: 48" preferred (36" min). All steps must be uniform. Provide a bicycle trough (runnel), 6-8 inches wide, smooth, and continuous for rolling bicycles. Use treated lumber, stone, or concrete. All fasteners must be corrosion-resistant. Provide drainage measures to prevent erosion and water accumulation. Install handrails (34-38 inches high) and guards where required. Provide landings every 10-12 feet vertical rise, minimum 36 inches depth. Work must withstand freeze/thaw cycles and heavy public use. Completion anticipated by end of summer 2026.
