Channel restoration and management actions including removal of accumulated bed material, installation of large wood structures, construction of a point bar and engineered riffles, and placement of bed material. Bonds: 100% Performance Bond, 100% Payment Bond. The City of Salem (City) owns and operates a public municipal water treatment facility located on Geren Island on the North Santiam River (River) between river mile 30 and 31, near Stayton, OR. The treatment facility provides 99 percent of the City's potable water, as well as water for the City of Turner and other local districts, providing service to approximately 220,000 customers. The river flows around Geren Island via two distinct channels - the North Channel and the South Channel. The North Channel provides water to intakes for the City's treatment facility, as well the Santiam Water Control District's (SWCD) irrigation system which supplies the City of Stayton's municipal water treatment facility and the Salem Ditch. The North Channel also supplies water to the City's designated recovery area for Oregon chub. Progressive changes in the morphology of the North Channel and adjacent floodplain have resulted in a reduction in water surface elevation and flow rates in the North Channel during the summer low flow conditions, ultimately resulting in less water flowing past the water intakes. The project includes implementing a series of channel restoration and management actions within the River designed to work in combination to increase low summer flows and reduce high winter flows in the North Channel, with the purpose of maintaining channel stability and consistent water flow within the channel. Construction of improvements to the existing Project will include: Removal of accumulated bed material at multiple sites within the River Installation of large wood structures Construction of a point bar and engineered riffles within the River Placement of removed bed material at other sites within the River Improvements will be constructed within the approved budget and according to the approved project schedule.
