The City of Tarpon Springs (City) Stormwater Action Plan (SAP) has identified existing drainage problem areas within the City. The SAP#42 identified three flooding areas along Dodecanese Boulevard between Roosevelt Boulevard and Alternate US 19. The specific locations from west to east are as follows: o The intersection of Hope Street and Dodecanese Boulevard o The intersection of Athens Street and Dodecanese Boulevard o The intersection of Arfaras Street and Dodecanese Boulevard Tidally-influenced (sunny-day) flooding occurs due to the combination of the low topography of Dodecanese Boulevard and the hydraulic connection between the Anclote River and adjacent streets via the existing storm sewer system as well as openings along the abutting seawall. Spring or King tidal water levels can exceed normal high tides by several feet and thereby cause extensive roadway, potential structure and the nuisance flooding of adjacent low-lying areas more than once a day for several hours at each peak tide occurrence. The proposed Dodecanese Boulevard Tidal Flooding Improvements Project has been prepared to resolve the tidallyinfluenced (sunny-day) flooding within these areas. The improvements proposed include installation of involve installing backflow prevention devices within the existing storm sewer systems that serve each of the intersections.
