The Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) on behalf of Michigan Department of Natural Resources - Wildlife Division, is requesting professional architectural and engineering services to perform a study and design for improvements to the Black River Drain located in the Allegan State Game Area, Fennville Farm Unit, MI. The services requested include Phase 100 - Study and Phase 300 - Schematic Design. Currently, the headwaters area of the North Branch of the Black River is managed as a County Drain (Allegan County). It is heavily dredged, incised, and moves water and sediment swiftly downstream. The DNR desires a study and schematic design for construct project(s) to restore natural function to a roughly 2-mile stretch of the drain. Overall project intent is to collect data on current stream functions, elevations, wetland, floodplain, and use reference reaches from downstream to design meanders, oxbows, and possibly a new stream channel that allows for floodplain connectivity and water retention in the adjacent land within the wildlife refuge and managed hunt areas. Desired outcome of the naturalization includes increased and improved habitat for waterfowl, waterbirds, and grassland birds. Desired benefits to the Black River include increased flood storage, lowered sediment transport, reduced bank erosion, and improved aquatic habitat for invertebrates and vertebrates. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
