The capacity of sanitary sewers in the downtown Hilliard area are a limiting factor as the area continues to see redevelopment. This project would reline sanitary sewer mains and laterals in the downtown Hilliard area in order to decrease storm water inflow and infiltration (I&I) and free up capacity, particularly during wet weather events, that limit overall sanitary capacity. Using a model that has proven effective in other Central Ohio communities, Burgess & Niple has identified priority 1 & 2 areas with approximately 9400 feet of sewer main and 191 laterals within the Old Hilliard area that are within 10 feet of a storm sewer. The close proximity between storm and sanitary sewers makes it easy for stormwater to infiltrate the sanitary system, significantly increasing flows during rain events. Other communities have found that relining sanitary laterals, in addition to mains, is key to significantly reducing the amount of I&I that enters the sanitary system. As of February 10, 2025, this project is included in the city's 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
