PROJECT LOCATION The project begins at the Dunes-Kankakee Trail, along-side SR 49 at the intersection of US 12 and continues through National Parks Service property crossing CR 50 E/Main Street, CR 100E/Tremont Road and CR 150 E/Hadenfeldt Road. At Hadenfeldt Road, the trail shares the Road to Furnessville Road, where it will run on the northern lane of the roadway to the abandoned Teale Drive right of way. The trail will run North along the road right of way to approximately 50 feet south of US 12, where the trail will head East through National Park Property to CR 300 E/Kemil Road. At Kemil Road, the trail will cross US 12 and the NICTD Railroad track utilizing the existing crossing and terminate at the existing Calumet Trail on the East side of Kemil Road. The Project is located in Section 24, T-37-N, R-6-W, Sections 17, 18, 19, 20, T-37-N, R-5-W Westchester Township, and Section 16, T-37- N, R-6-W, Pine Township, Porter County, Indiana. Questions received less than two days prior to the date for opening. The project consists of the construction of approximately 2.87 miles of new 10 ft wide multi-use trail predominantly through Indiana Dunes National Park. The work includes corridor clearing and earthwork for the new trail, which will be 4 inches of HMA on 6 inches of Compacted Aggregate No. 53 with Concrete Curb Ramps at each street crossing. Trail sections will also include areas of modular block retaining wall and timber boardwalk on helical piers. Share the road sections will include striping, signage, and installation of delineator bollards. Drainage improvements include new culverts and trench drains. The project will include improvements for a pedestrian crossing at US 12 and Kemil Road, including curbs, curb ramps, and a RRFB pedestrian crossing signage. The work includes the carrying out of all duties and obligations and the furnishing of all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and other incidentals necessary or convenient to the successful completion of the project.
