Current seventh- and eighth-graders in Cedar Rapids will be the first to have access to the new spaces as high school students in the district’s College and Career Pathways program. Background The Cedar Rapids district has been working for years to launch its College and Career Pathways program, which school leaders say will be a way for students to explore their career interests while still in high school. Each high school will offer slightly different pathways — announced in October 2024 — for students to explore and gain experience to determine if it’s the career field for them. The plan received pushback in December 2024 from families who felt the plan needed more time to be developed, leading the district to delay the program by one year. All freshmen at Kennedy, Jefferson and Washington high schools will be required to take a Freshman Seminar as part of a Freshman Academy beginning this fall. The class — which was piloted this year — teaches ninth-graders about career opportunities and how they can explore their interests through other elective courses. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bids will be received for a general contract covering all trades. Bid security in the amount of 5 percent of the bid amount must be submitted with each bid. The project has a target for Targeted Small Business participation of ten percent. Bidders are required to be properly licensed and submit a residency statement as required by Iowa Administrative Code. Out-of-state bidders must submit an Out-of-State Contractor Bond to the Iowa Division of Labor. The Owner reserves the right to reject any or all bids and waive informalities or irregularities. It is the intent to award the contract to the lowest responsible, responsive bidder who complies with bidding requirements. Project Description: Project consists of upgrades to the existing hydraulic elevator controls, electrical components and car to bring the elevator up to current codes. a. Owner’s Project cost range is anticipated to be under $360,000.00.
