Renovation of a municipal facility in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Design plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.

This project involves interior renovations of the Town-owned building at 50 Nye Road for the benefit of the School District. It is anticipated that the School District's Board Offices would move into the building prior to its current lease at 628 Hebron Avenue expiring on July 30, 2026. Additionally, some School District staff and programs currently based at Smith Middle School would be relocated to 50 Nye Road. However, 50 Nye Road would not house any students. The move would result in 10 rooms at Smith Middle School being freed up for classroom use. The 10 classrooms would eventually house a new team for seventh and eighth grade. Work on the first floor would include expanding smaller offices into larger spaces, renovating the kitchen area, and creating a large conference room with seating for 48 people across four tables. Work on the lower floor would include expanding smaller offices into larger spaces and creating functional storage space. A significant portion of the basement was gutted by the prior owner but never refinished. Remaining walls and ceilings in that area would be removed to allow for the creation of large storage and science kit preparation areas, which will receive new walls, flooring, ceilings, and light fixtures. Mechanical systems will be modified as necessary to accommodate the new layout. Also included in the proposed appropriation is funding for the following: 1) Security system; 2) Landline telephones; 3) Cameras; 4) Exterior and interior signage; 5) Window treatments for offices; 6) Furniture, fixtures and equipment such as marker boards, tack boards, furniture for additional staff relocated to Nye Road that are currently utilizing workstations; 7) Occupancy sensors for energy conservation; 8) Emergency generator; 9) Moving and relocation services; and 10) Establishment of a "slop sink" in the lower level. Of the $1,063,000 proposed appropriation, $990,000 would be for hard construction costs, and $73,000 would be allocated to architectural and engineering costs. As of May 19, 2025, this project is included in the Town of Glastonbury's Fiscal Year 2026-2030 CIP. It is currently in design. Construction is expected to begin in the Fall of 2025. Funding is allotted for FY 2026. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
