The City of Benton Harbor invites proposals from qualified engineering consultants to provide professional design engineering, permitting, and cost estimation services for Phase 1 of the Ox Creek Trail, extending from Highland Ave to Britain Ave The City of Benton Harbor invites proposals from qualified engineering consultants to provide professional design engineering, permitting, and cost estimation services for Phase 1 of the Ox Creek Trail, extending from Highland Avenue to Britain Avenue. In addition, the selected consultant will complete a feasibility study for trail entire extending from Harbor Shores Trails to the Home Depot along Ox Creek, including conceptual routing, key constraints, and generalized cost estimates. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Ox Creek Trail is a planned shared-use path intended to improve nonmotorized connectivity, promote recreation, and provide safe transportation alternatives throughout Benton Harbor. The trail will follow the Ox Creek corridor and link residential, commercial, and regional trail systems, including the Harbor Shores Trail network. First is to get the Phase 1 trail segment between Highland Avenue and Britain Avenue (including a bridge crossing the creek at Hall Park) shovel ready. This section represents an important first step in the broader Ox Creek Trail vision, serving as a foundation for future extensions toward both Harbor Shores and the Benton Charter Township commercial area near Home Depot. Trail design must conform to AASHTO and ADA standards applicable to shared-use paths and be compatible with Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) and MDOT Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant funding requirements.
